In the remote past, A crazy dutch
group called Jetset died, sadly for
the scene. Some months ago, a few
dutch humans decided to reborn the
group. Now they kick hard with their
unique style and seem to rise to the
top. Sledge Hammer presents an
interview with the Jetset leader
(+ gardener):
Seck-4
SH: Please tell the readers something
about yourself, your scene-, and
non-scene side!
S: Well, I am 19 years old, and the
gfx man and leader of Jetset. I've
been in the scene for about 3 years
now, and I used to be hanging around
with the guys from Vermin, and Axis.
After Axis, I decided to re-form the
most original and weird group in the
Neverlands called: JETSET. Actually
that's where I'm at, and that's where
I'll stay (unless a better offer..) In
my normal life, I'm a student at an
economic-education, and I still have 2
years to go. Afterwards I'll try to
continue my education as long as
possible (if my mum still wants me
around!)..
SH: Tell us a little about your scene
career till this point of time!
S: I started it all with doing some
swapping and trading, I discovered the
difference (:-) and started to explore
the possibilities of the sideways
moving of the mouse. My first
graphics-skills could be admired in a
trackdemo by Vermin, after that I
joined up with Axis, and those groups
surely were one of the best Holland
ever had. (this was not ment to be
somekind of a selfish-statement!),
check the releases to convince
yourself, remember 'Unknown
Territory'?
SH: Why did Jetset join Skid Row as a
sub-group? Don't you think it will
ruin your scene reputation being in a
cracker group?
S: Things seem to be a bit strange
due to the fact that there were some
misunderstandings concerning the
supply of crackintros etc, but as you
already probably know we decided to
join an other group as a
(demo-)division. At the moment we are
still negotiating with an other crew.
If any other groups are interested, we
keep ourselves recommended! I think
that when a group starts to do some
crackintros etc, you just improve your
own celebrity. More and more people
will see the stuff you do this way.
SH: Jetset developed its very own
style. Do you think that style is
important? And how much important in
your opinion?
S: I agree, we are trying to continue
the awesome graffiti-style you all
used to see in the Jetset releases.
THAT's just what seperates Jetset from
all the other groups. OUR style.
Just take a look at all the
MELON-RIPP-OFFS at the moment!, It's
just a shame that other groups can't
come up with something completely
different!.. It seems that every
group has to have somekind of a
black/white block with their name in
it! -> Be original! I personally
think that there are enough
possibilities to explore your range
with other styles like the sixtees
style, having some heavy-metal and
maybe some hip-hop influences, etc.
Just don't be afraid to try something
completely different!
Note: we have a lot of respect
towards MELON, because of THEIR
originality! ..$eck / Jetset)
@IPalexC
SH: In some people's view, the
graffiti style-gfx you're making is
attractive but dead easy to draw, and
you have a lot of sources to get
inspiration/blueprints, but you have
already been ranked as a great
graphician. What are your comments
about it?
S: I just challenge them all. So
far, NO other graphicians have been
able to do something equally. I guess
it's eazier said than done! Please
try to beat!, it surely raises the
competition-level....(ha!) I'm proud
to have started this rage together
with Eswat (used to be in Jetset).. I
consider this guy as one of the best
graffiti-artists I have ever seen.
And I'm glad he tought me some
examples. On paper/walls he beats any
kind of competition! (Much Respect!
dude!) About the inspiration, yes, I
must admit there's enough material,
but doesn't every graphician develop
his skills by studying other work?
And I don't specificly mean that you
have to ripp-off a complete style, but
there's only one way to develop
yourself and that's to practice.
SH: IkillR and Eswat have left Jetset
recently to join Paradox. Would you
be angry if they make a demo using the
Jetset style?
S: No. Ikillr and I were the
founders of the late Jetset. If
everything went the way Ikillr planned
it, the entire Jetset crew would have
joined up with Paradox. That explains
our off the record-band. It was just
a vegetable-loving guy (me) who
refused because of the reputation we
just managed to create with Overload
2. So we both have the same style, so
what? Ikillr and I still speak
eachother a lot lately, so there's
really no doubt about the question
that there would be somekind of
competition between both teams.. We
still hang around a lot and have a
good time together (maybe Jetset will
be ONE big team again... Ha ha!)
SH: Tell us a bit about your daily
life (education, hobbies, etc) and
about your hometown!
S: At the moment I love Brenda, she's
being somekind of an inspiration for
me, and I'm trying to build somekind
of a relation-ship with her. The
other person I love very much is
Ikillr, we still share the
needle...?!. And ofcourse Timeless is
still my personal property when it's
about the foreign-sex-affairs. One
advice, get your hands of him!
(insane?) And except drawing graphics
on the Amiga1200, I love collecting
graphic-books (Graffiti, Modern Art
etc.) I go out sometimes, and like to
listen to Jazz-Hiphop, and
(Hardcore)Rap music.
SH: Do you think that graphicians
should copy pictures or shouldn't?
Explain why?
S: Sometimes you can explore yourself
by learning new effects and styles to
copy them, but on the other hand it's
much nicer to use your own creative
imagination. Maybe you all should
vote for the guys who don't try to
copy complete pictures, this surely
would abandon the non-creative drawers
from the charts anyway. Otherwise we
all could copy, or buy a scanner and
all get voted nr.1 gfx...
@IPaustralC
SH: Who are your favourite scene
graphicians and why? Who are your
favourite 'real' artists?
S: Eswat is surely my favourite, I
love his graphics. He HATES copying
stuff from existing sources, so
everything he draws is original. I
also like stuff from guys like Seen,
Delta, CBS, Waffen-NS (real
graffiti-scene) In the Amiga scene I
admire guys like Seen, he really
started a Melon-rage! Hof, Murdock
(Jetset), Elwood, Red Devil, Fairfax
and a lot of other guys.
SH: What do you think about the dutch
scene?
S: It's still growing. There are
some new groups getting involved into
the real thing like Vicious and
Cyanide, etc. We also recognize the
duplication of our style... We are
using somekind of an own slang, which
is definitely being copied by the
dutch groups.. I guess we experience
the same as Melon does.. But we will
beat them, since we are the inventors
of our style, we are always 1 step
ahead! ha ha ha ha! ..we're coming!
SH: Well, if you have some messages
to the world, here is your chance!
S:
- Bip/Desire.. ..Ja wat zal ik zeggen?
- Eswat/Paradox? : the best!
- Ikillr & TimelesS: let's get naked!
- Stripper/Majic 12 : I want your
address!
- Laxity/Kefrens : Keep up the good
work guy! you're one of the best!
- Vicious : Check your Sources! Your
info doesn't match your statements!
- Colin/World of twist : Gunshot, ha!
- Hollywood (or would she not?)/JST:
keep up the style man! you're able
to do..
- Dark/Jetset, it's almost ready!
- Gamma/Sonic : welcome to our team
- Turbo/Bronx : co-operation? naahhh!
- DeWire : it ain't over till it's
over..
- Zcandaler/Aurora : definitely hype!
soon reply to satisfy.
- Murdock : zonder jou kan ik niet
leven..
- Nose/Paradise : wanna join?
REquest1: I'm mainly a graphician, so
please don't send any mail concerning
some HOTSTUFF trading.. I just don't
have the time! I only trade with guys
which can meet my requirements
concerning sexual education and
photographical stimulation of the
erotic areas..
REqueST2 : Since Jetset is trying to
get involved into the real scene, it
would be nice to have contact with
some real graffiti-artists around..
Anyone interested? Are there any
skilled graffiti graphics guys who
want reserve a seat in the Jet-plane ?
